Mr. Mel Gilkinson is a consultant with the Fire & Electrical group at 30 Forensic Engineering. Mel achieved his 309a Electrical Licence through IBEW Local 804 and his Ontario Master Electrician Licence (ME) through the Electrical Safety Authority (ESA). He has investigated hundreds of solar installations for code conformity and tested installations for faults and issues that could create future problems. Along with work in the solar industry, he has investigated electrical failures in residential, industrial, agricultural, and institutional settings. He also assisted in the development of the CSA 1000 Model Code Standard (Canadian Guideline for Field Approval of Electrical Equipment). Prior to joining 30, Mel worked in the electrical industry in multiple capacities: he completed installations of various types; worked as a provincially recognized electrical inspector and equipment approvals inspector (Canadian and American code specifications); and performed Quality Assurance and Control in the nuclear industry. Over a career spanning over 40 years, Mel has gained expansive experience performing a variety of investigations in his field.
